Helicon publishes and provides reference material including the Hutchinson Encyclopedia, the UK's leading encyclopedia in print, on CD-ROM, and online.
Helicon specializes in electronic publishing, and maintains databases containing over 21 million words, ranging from serious subject reference to quizzes and memory joggers. As well as text, the databases contain thousands of maps, diagrams, illustrations, audio clips, and animations.
We provide tailor-made packages of content for use by our customers for their books, on their Web sites and intranets, on CD-ROM and interactive digital TV, in e-books, and in mobile communications products. Our online client list ranges from AOL and BigChalk.com to the BBC; we also license extensively for print for a range of well-respected reference publishers.
Helicon's history is one of innovation, consistently marrying content to technology, and with a reputation for service. In 1992, we were the first to create an encyclopedia for an electronic handheld device, and the first, in 2000, with ntl, to launch an encyclopedia on interactive digital TV.
Helicon is owned by RM plc, leading suppliers of computing equipment and software to the UK educational market. As a division of RM, Helicon's content is in use in their educational products, including Living Library. |
