Leading online retailer WHSmith.co.uk and Microsoft Corporation today jointly announce an alliance that will bring e-books in Microsoft Reader format to consumers across the UK.
At the London International Book Fair today, WHSmith.co.uk announced that it would be opening an online e-bookstore by the end of the summer that will sell e-books in Microsoft® Reader format using Microsoft Digital Asset Server. The new e-bookstore will offer the widest possible choice of popular titles including titles from Hodder Headline publishing and reference titles from Helicon as well as titles from other publishers.

Concurrent with the opening of the new e-bookstore, Microsoft will deliver a WHSmith.co.uk version of Microsoft Reader, which will be offered for free download. Additionally, Microsoft's Digital Asset Server, the leading digital rights management solution for e-books, will be employed to ensure the secure distribution of titles.
