Websters' Interactive Encyclopedia 1998
Troubleshooter
I have an Internet connection but am unable to connect to Web Sites from the CD
When the encyclopedia attempts to connect to Web Sites from within the program, it does so by starting your Internet connection. If your Internet Service Provider requires you to enter a password before starting your Internet connection then you must log on before you try to connect to a site. To do this, minimize the encyclopedia to your Windows taskbar, start your Internet connection as usual, and then maximize the encyclopedia again. Remember to disconnect when you have finished your session.
I get an 'An error has occured while copying files. Setup will now terminate' message during installation and cannot install the CD
Your CD-ROM drive or its interface has not been set up correctly for Windows 95/98, and has devices running in MS-DOS compatibility mode. The preferred mode is Windows 95 is 32-bit mode; if your CD-ROM drive is running in MS-DOS mode, it means that long filenames (the first of which is Buttclick.wav) are truncated which confuses the installation, which in turn creates an error message. To check the status of your file system:
- Click on Start|Settings|Control Panel.
- Double-click on the System icon.
- Click on the Performance tab.
- Look at the entry File System. If it says 'One or more drives are running in MS-DOS compatibility mode', you must remedy this before you can install the CD.
>Because there are many ways in which your file system can be set to MS-DOS compatibility mode, a single fix cannot be given here. It is recommended that you contact your PC vendor for a solution. They set up your system and should know what hardware is installed in your system.
